House Washing
House Washing
How often do you wash your car? Once a week? Once a month? Well, if you love your car and you enjoy seeing it sparkle you make sure you wash it frequently. That might be once a week but let's be honest, for most of us it's longer than that. Let's move that example to your house. How often do you wash your house? Well, while it doesn't need to be washed every week, it's still a good idea to wash your house and see it sparkle. Let's find out why.Why should I wash my house?
Just like a car, houses benefit from being washed. In Brisbane, we live in a humid and tropical environment and that means we have a lot of mould. Have you seen green or black mould on your house? Or perhaps even lichen growing on the gutters? It grows everywhere! If left unchecked mould will continue to grow on cladding, bricks, vinyl, fascias, soffits and gutters, basically every surface of your house! If the house is on a busy road, there is also the build up of soot and road dust which is usually seen just under the soffits. Then of course there are all the creepy crawlies and insects. Spiders love to make nests in all of the nooks and crannies, leaving their webs everywhere. Hornets build their mud nests and wasps build their paper nests on walls and eaves and then to top it off bats fly past at night and bomb the house with their poo! As you can see, eventually the house loses its sparkle. It needs a wash.
How are houses washed professionally?
Back in the old days, houses were washed with a water blaster and pressure, and a lot of it. But these days houses are washed using a soft wash method. What is soft wash? Soft wash refers to any method whereby cleaning solutions are applied to the house and then the house is rinsed off with water at low pressure. A lot like washing a car! Instead of high pressure removing contaminants by force, the cleaning solutions gently break down and dissolve the mould, lichen and other contaminants. They are then gently washed away with fresh water. Soft washing has several benefits over pressure washing a house. First, it doesn't take as long as pressure washing a house and so is more affordable. It won't damage surfaces or strip them of paint and it is a lot less likely for water to be forced through windows and electrical fittings or outlets around the house. It also does a much better job than pressure washing at giving a thorough clean because the cleaning solutions are able to kill the mould, not just strip it off the surface. In fact, if the underlying paint is in good condition, after a soft wash it can look almost brand new!
While a variety of systems might be used to complete a soft wash, they achieve the same result. A professionally washed house that sparkles!
How often should I wash my house?
That depends on the location and how much you value your house looking it's best. If your house, like many in Brisbane, has a lot of trees and vegetation around it you will find that there is a lot more mould growth. That's because the plants release water vapour and that creates a perfect environment for mould to grow. In that case, you might want to get the house washed once a year. In other cases, you might need to book a house wash every two or three years.
